Margrette Mondillo
Executive Director and COO of the Light Foundation*

her topic will be
"My Journey Through a Renal Transplant"
Margrette Mondillo previously worked in broadcast media and public relations. However, in her present role, she relishes the opportunity to speak about the Light Foundation’s focus on youth leadership development. She will discuss this important work with us.
But Margrette also has a passionate message to share about her unexpected journey with renal disease. Back in November 2022, Margrette began experiencing concerns about her health. This was very new as she had always been healthy. She learned that she was entering end-stage renal failure and needed to undergo dialysis and a potential kidney transplant. As she continued a very hectic work schedule, she prepared for this dramatic surgical procedure and all it involved.
She had to endure the wait for a kidney donor and learned of a unique kidney “swap” program that enabled her to obtain her new, life-saving organ. Her transplant took place in February 2024 at Mass General Hospital by the same Surgical Team that successfully transplanted a pig kidney into a human being in March 2024 and again in January 2025. Margrette would like to share this fascinating clinical journey with us and raise awareness about kidney disease.
